Well then, why do our youth groups exist at all?
The Bible says that everyone exists for the glory of God (Isaiah 43:7). This means that whereas many people think that we exist for our own benefit (no, not me surely!), actually God says that He is the most important person in the universe, and that everything exists for Him. So the point of our youth groups is to honour God in all we do.
We are part of St James’s Church. The aim of the Church is “To love Jesus and make him known.” Someone who loves Jesus and wants to tell other people about him is known as a disciple, or follower, of Jesus
The Bible seems to show 3 main stages in becoming a disciple:
1. Coming to See what Jesus is like (John 1:39) – literally, just having a look
2. Coming to Follow Jesus for yourself (Mark 1:16-20) – making a commitment to him
3. Going to Make other disciples for Jesus (Matt 28:19-20) – helping others to see Jesus
Our logos, “See”, “Follow”, “Make”, sum up what we are trying to do, and will hopefully help you to remember it!
There are 4 main things which are important in being a disciple of Jesus, and run through everything we do:
1. The Bible is God speaking to us, so we try to listen to what it says
2. We pray to God so we can know him better and grow as Christians
3. We seek to build real loving Christian friendships with each other
4. We encourage each other to tell others about the good news of Jesus
