What we believe
St James stands within the Evangelical wing of the Church of England. To some that is a very positive word. To others it carries negative overtones. As a church we are more concerned to be known for what we are for than for what we might be against. We are not a ‘party’ church, more of a local ‘parish’ church with strong evangelical convictions. We seek to build bridges with any both within and outside Anglican circles to work together for God’s kingdom, within what some call a ‘generous orthodoxy’. We have people from many different church backgrounds at St James and all are welcome.
We are members of the Evangelical Alliance. Their statement of faith, in addition to the traditional creeds and articles of the church, would be one that all the clergy and senior lay leaders could ascribe to. (see link below)
