Schools work
Working with local schools is a well-established tradition for St James, and integral to our ‘church-involved-in-the-community’ focus and style. We aim to share the Bible with children in exciting, accessible and relevant ways - and to have fun with them on the way.
We’re lucky to work with some great people and great resources, so having fun as we teach children something of what Christians believe and what the Bible says is not difficult. Schools invite us to lead assemblies, take RE lessons, and teachers occasionally bring class groups to visit the church. We also have the opportunity to build closer, more long-term relationships at the lunch and after school clubs we run. The children we meet ask the most fascinating and thought-provoking questions. They want answers they can consider independently and discuss with their friends and their families.
We are supported by a dedicated group of volunteers, and enjoy close links with members of other local churches - Grace Church, Wilton Community Church and Muswell Hill Baptist Church. We are also team members of Pathway, a Christian education charity, which works in primary schools across North London. Each half term we take a new Pathway assembly on the road around the schools of Muswell Hill and beyond. It is fantastic to be part of a wider network of churches and workers in the work we do.
We also work closely with N:Flame a Christian Charity that works in secondary schools.
