Evangelism

We are committed to ‘passionately seeking the lost’. We believe that Jesus came ‘to seek and to save that which is lost’. In many ways, all of our ministries and each of our lives should have an evangelistic edge.

Alpha is our main focus for evangelism at St James. We call it our evangelistic engine. Running the Alpha Course three times a year reminds us of the importance of sharing Jesus with friends, family members and those in our community. However, it’s not all that we do evangelistically. To change the metaphor, we sometimes refer to Alpha as the neck of a funnel and other evangelistic activity as the mouth of the same funnel, as ways to get people sufficiently interested and connected to want to come and find out more. Activities in this area range from ‘Prayer on the Broadway’ to Golf Days, community involvement, ‘Sounds of the Summer’ and other concerts, special events with guest speakers looking at hot topics for example.

Though we are called to the work of evangelism, some have a special passion and gifting in this area. We try to gather these folks together a few times a year for mutual encouragement, prayer and brainstorming. We serve in many different areas of the church’s life but share this common enthusiasm. We call this the ‘Evangelism Team’.
