Building for Mission

Initial project costs in region of £170,000

At St James we strive to embody our vision and values in our life and work, loving God and serving our communities. The PCC has suggested that the church commits itself to praying for and seeing growth in membership to 1,000 in five years and one of the important steps in realising this goal is preparing buildings and facilities to bring in and support a larger, broader community.

In response to the need to prepare ourselves for growth, we have committed to the “Building for Mission” programme, which will provide St James with new spaces for its current work and help us to engage with our neighbours.

The first part of this project is to build a new space as soon as possible, primarily to accommodate and develop our growing under-fives’s ministry. There is an urgent need for a more appropriate environment in which teach, nurture and care for our youngest members and we plan to build a new 60sq metre room in the existing courtyard between the music office, children's office and vicarage.

With this new building we will be able to accommodate crèche and scramblers on Sunday mornings, free up another room for mothers and babies and provide the children’s team with space to develop other new projects in a safe environment as they see to make and maintain contact with young families in our area.

St James has already been blessed in receiving generous pledges towards the costs of building the new children's room but we still need to secure a significant amount of money in a short time. The anticipated cost for the new building is around £170,000. Plans and costings for the whole project will be available later in the autumn.

If you have any questions about the project please email churchoffice@st-james.org.uk. If you would like to contribute to this first step in seeing God's mission realised at St James the attached form will give you all the information you need to do this. Thank you.
